CSA Mission and Purpose

The CSA mission purpose is to teach how to live effectively and awaken from ordinary states of mind and consciousness to Self and God Realization.

CSA’s ministry activity provides useful methods and resources to spiritually educate, inspire and cultivate interested aspirants to be spiritually enlightened through study of Kriya Yoga philosophy and meditation.

“We do not yearn for knowledge without purpose: we yearn to know the truth because of the innate inclination of the soul, which is extending itself to experience omnipresence and omnipotence. Without this knowing, without the conscious realization, we can never feel whole and complete.”     Roy Eugene Davis

Why meditate?

The main purpose of meditation is to calm the mind, allow awareness to be clear, and to experience our natural, true state of Being. The benefits of regular meditation are manifold and many individuals enjoy physiological and psychological enhancement after meditating for a short period of time. These added benefits are not the goal, but they naturally occur when the mind becomes calm.

As the brain and nervous system become more refined through steady practice, psychological transformation occurs, deeper states of inner peace develop, intellectual and intuition are enhanced, and unfoldment of innate knowledge emerges.

The ultimate goal of meditation is to experience god realization.

Benefits

Neuroscience continues to document measurable changes in the brain associated with improved memory, greater stress resilience, and enhanced cognitive performance.

Meditators experience:

  • stress reduction
  • strengthening of the body’s immune system
  • better organized thought processes
  • improved powers of concentration
  • enhanced powers of memory
  • refinement and enlivening of the nervous system
  • slowing of biologic aging processes

What is Kriya Yoga

Kriya Yoga is a lifestyle that supports wellness and spiritual unfoldment. It offers practical guidelines for inspired living, emphasizes meditation, and encourages steady daily spiritual practice to realize spiritual enlightenment.

Our Kriya Yoga tradition reflects  a direct guru-to-disciple (teacher-to-student) transmission beginning in 1861 with Mahavatar Babaji, Lahiri Mahasaya, Sri Yukteswar, Paramahansa Yogananda, and Roy Eugene Davis. The most widely known teacher of the Kriya Yoga tradition in the West is the Indian yogi Paramahansa Yogananda, who arrived in the United States in the 1920s. Roy Eugene Davis was one of his most advanced direct disciples. He later founded the Center for Spiritual Awareness (CSA) in the serene mountains of northeast Georgia. This authentic Kriya Yoga carries forward the timeless wisdom of the yoga path as presented in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras. Kriya Yoga is a form of yoga called Raja Yoga (the royal path), emphasizing meditation and right living.

Roy Eugene Davis

Roy Eugene Davis is the founder and longtime Spiritual Director of the Center for Spiritual Awareness. A direct disciple of Paramahansa Yogananda, Mr. Davis, a Sat-Guru, (spiritually realized and able to lead others toward Self and God Realization) devoted his entire life to assisting sincere seekers on their spiritual path.

His many books have been translated into thirteen languages and published in eleven countries. Over the course of more than sixty‑eight years of dedicated selfless service, Mr. Davis shared Kriya Yoga teachings worldwide; speaking at conferences, appearing on television programs, and personally guided thousands of students in their practice and understanding of Kriya Yoga. Mr. Davis created a unique spiritual community at CSA headquarters welcoming interested seekers to meditation retreat programs which continue to this day.

“I can always love you and bless you, and see you in the wholeness of life- wherever you are, at all times.” (Roy Eugene Davis)

Our Center

The Center for Spiritual Awareness was founded by Roy Eugene Davis in 1972 in the beautiful mountains of northeast Georgia, USA. CSA has filled an empty space in my soul.”

Visiting CSA for the first time for a yoga retreat, I felt an immediate sense of calmness. The grounds and buildings were inviting and beautiful. My accommodations were comfortable and clean. Attending meditation on Sunday was a wonderful experience. CSA has filled an empty space in my soul. I look forward to returning and studying Kriya Yoga!”
